Ritu Choudhry Seth
When most TV serial artistes are making efforts to enter Bollywood after carving a niche for themselves on the small screen, Ritu Chaudhary Seth, better known as Shobha Virani of the small screen, believes, for married women like her, TV is still the best medium. Comparing the silver screen with the small screen she says, "For an artiste who has come from a traditional and conservative family background, television provides a clean atmosphere. Moreover, She feel in the film industry there is exploitation and you have to make compromises to get ahead in life. A career in television is good for those who do not belong to the group of young gals with the attitude of 'dare and bare' to get success in tinseltown." Recently she has completed a movie to be selected for the international film festival. Ritu has also joined theatre and has done 40 shows of a comedy play with a social message in India and Dubai.
"These saas-bahu soaps provide a good source of entertainment to the public. That is the reason why despite criticism from a few quarters, their TRP rating is scaling new heights since the past so many years. She feel that people across the country, irrespective of their religion, like such serials which are closer to life and they can relate to them," observes Ritu, who was recently in Kanpur to meet her maternal grand mother. When asked about her life off screen, she says, "I am happily married to Gautam Seth a businessman. My parents too are living in Mumbai. She like to attend late night parties with my husband and play adventure sports like skiing and scuba diving. HoweverShe have no interest in cricket. My husband, however, would love to watch the ODI between India and Pakistan."
