Suvarna Jha
She's the girl who shot to fame with her character Mishti in Sony's Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai and now Suvarna Jha can be seen in Star Plus' primetime show, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhie Bahu Thi. Suvarna has not only made headlines with her acting prowess, but the lady has been in news for her alleged affair with co-star Amit Tandon and actor Abhay Deol. But the petite actress has just one thing on her mind - acting!
Prashant Golecha caught up with the actress for a quick chat.
Acting career so far
I was working behind the scenes in variety of areas. I was an assistant director at one point of time. Farah Khan, Sanjay Khan’s daughter offered me my first role in a show called Jannat on Channel Nine Gold. It ran for less than a year. I played Zoya and it was a Muslim social drama. After that I did Dekho magar Pyar Se for Prime Channel. Then I played Mishti in Kaisa yeh pyar hai. I didn’t audition for it. Two weeks back only I stopped shooting for it. But since it is a daily my track may be brought back anytime depending upon the story. Kyunki…was offered to me before my KYPH track came to an end.
Response to the character (Trupti) in Kyunki Saas Bhi….
The feedback so far has been quite good. The revealation scene wherein I have been shown to be hand in gloves with Mohini (played by Tassnim Sheikh) turning my character to negative was quite shocking for the audience. I have joined Kyunki….only to do a cameo for two months but one never knows! Until I started doing the show, I had not watched Kyunki.... I don’t watch shows I don’t act in. I prefer watching History or Discovery Channel and above that I am a movie buff so I watch movie channels.
Difference between Kyunki...and Kaisa ye pyar hai
In case of Kaisa Ye Pyar hai, the show was new and it took time for characters to develop an identity. In case of Kyunki... all the characters are established. The Kyunki... team is like a well-oiled machine. Everyone is professional. Everything happens on time. I had heard a lot of horror stories about the Kyunki... people. Ekta had told me everyone is professional but still I was a little weary and was quiet on the first day. But everyone was very nice to me whether it was Tassnim or Shilpa Saklani, they all made me feel like a part of the unit.
On friendship with Ekta Kapoor
Ekta Kapoor and I were friends even before I did Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai. Friendship didn’t happen and grow in one day. It was Mushtak Sheikh who introduced us and with time Ekta and I became friends. Ekta, Shabbir, Anita, Vikas Sethi and I go out at least once in two weeks.
Working with Balaji TelefilmsBalaji
is a far more organized set up. I have in past worked with production houses like Prime channel, BAG and Cineviesta. In case of Balaji at least in my case I can say one is informed if there are extended hours of shooting and I have never been forced to shoot when I have been ill rather my scenes were cancelled. In India as an actor anywhere you have to ask for your own money but in case of Balaji by a particular date you can collect your cheque. I would prefer to work with Balaji only now as dates are also taken care of automatically.
Living Alone in Mumbai
I was horribly spoiled while growing. In Mumbai I have learnt to appreciate the things, which I didn’t when I was at home. I have learnt the value of money. To make money is not easy. My parents are divorced. My mother lives in Delhi and father lives in Dehradun. My father has recently purchased a house and I have yet to see it.
My interests
I have atleast 700 DVD’s. I love watching films of all languages. I am a voracious reader and I always have a pile of unread books. I buy 10 to 20 books each time I visit a bookstore. I love to travel also.
God and Spiritualism
I don’t believe in any particular religion. All religions teach one to become a better person. Spiritualism according to me is getting in touch with the divine spark to get in touch with your innerself. I worship all Gods equally.
